Marcelo Machado is one of the most accomplished figures in the history of Brazilian basketball. A former Olympic athlete, he built a career defined by longevity, leadership, and consistent excellence at the highest levels of the sport.

He is a three-time Pan American Games champion with the Brazilian National Team, becoming the only Brazilian basketball player to win three Pan American titles, and finished 5th at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Marcelo represented Brazil for 18 years, served as team captain, and is the record holder for most FIBA World Cup appearances by a Brazilian player, with five tournaments played.

Throughout his career, he gained international experience in European basketball, competing at a high level and playing in the EuroLeague, in addition to performing in some of Europe's top domestic leagues. At club level, he was a FIBA Club World Champion with Flamengo in 2014, a multiple-time national champion, and is recognized as one of the greatest players in the history of Brazilian basketball. He also holds the record for most points scored in a single official Brazilian Championship game, and ranked as the 4th leading scorer at the 2002 FIBA World Cup in Indianapolis.

Individually, Marcelo received multiple top honors, being named MVP of the South American Championship, MVP of the Brazilian Championship, and MVP of the FIBA AmeriCup, highlighting his impact and leadership across different competitions.

Beyond competition, Marcelo has dedicated himself to building a lasting legacy through basketball. He is the founder of a social development project in Rio de Janeiro, which has directly impacted over 1,500 children and teenagers and reached more than 10,000 people indirectly, through educational and sports initiatives developed in underserved communities, using basketball as a tool for education, discipline, and social transformation.
